Flowing out of the idea that individuals and communities should flourish, the purpose of The Big Conversation is to stimulate dialogue in a defined geographical area on the aspirations, questions, issues and hopes that most concern its residents.

Our vision is to facilitate conversations among people at the kitchen table; in the local pub; at the school canteen or work cafeteria; in the local community centre and across the political region.

Rather than give space only to the more vocal, the goal is to hear the voice of those from across all sections of a community.

PHASES 1-3

At the heart of The Big Conversation are three simple phases.

PHASE 1
The goal of this phase is to hear what the residents of the community have to say, and to discover their aspirations, hopes, concerns and fears. Through a series of engaging and enjoyable mechanisms opinions are canvassed and a summary of what questions people have is published.

PHASE 2
Having identified what people want to talk about, this second phase is about creating spaces for conversations.

PHASE 3
This phase is about making a practical difference. So following the creation of a people’s charter and engaging community stakeholders, the community together begins to tackle some of the issues that The Big Conversation has flagged up.

"Many communities today are being squeezed by the forces of politics and consumerism. To prevent the dehumanising of these communities, mechanisms are needed that create space that stimulates conversations for the community so that they can explore what it means to flourish individually and collectively"
